SEG and Fight Area 51 Present “Pound4Pound2″ January 5

Here is the bout list for January 5th’s event. More details as they come, this is the most recent list, boxrec has yet to be updated to reflect these changes. While this card may lack in star power it wont lack in action or rounds… Look for more details as well as interviews with some of the combatants as the fights approach..

Tyler Hultin (3,1,1) vs Stephen Watt (1,0) 154lbs 5 rounds…. This should be a good one. Hultin is coming off of his first defeat. As usual, he was in the fight of the night but on the losing end of the decision. The loss could be a blessing in disguise as the size difference was huge in his last fight. Watt’s only fight was a first round stoppage of Silas Ortley. Hultin too has fought Ortley winning by way of UD… Look for fireworks and another good chance of fight of the night in this one.

Jonathon Perez (4,0) vs Brian Jones (0,4) weight? 4 rounds….Perez is a skilled fighter and can bring some excitement, and three of Jones losses have come by stoppage, this one has KO of the night written all over it.

Brad Heroff (1,0) vs Zach Wolff (0,2) weight? 4 rounds…. Heroff won his first fight by wide UD, Wolff’s two losses  were to Patraw and Jake Backus. This is another fight that could be interesting, I think we may see some high action here..

Brad Patraw (9,4) vs Robert DaLuz (13,43) weight? rounds?…. Patraw is coming off victory and injury. Bad Brad showed toughness as he won his last fight while finishing things off with a broken hand. Last we saw DaLuz he was stopped by Sharp Shooter Muwendo in the 4th. Records aside, this could steal the show…

Robert Brant (4,0) vs Romon Barber (3,2) weight? 6 rounds…. Brant is really good…lol, last we saw Barber was when he faced Corey Rodriguez losing by way of UD. In his last fight he won a split decision against a (2,0) fighter… The problem here is, Brant is really good… three of his four wins have come by stoppage, two of those in the first round.

Jamal James (8,0) vs Patrick Boozer (5,1) 147lbs 6 rounds…. James is coming off the biggest win of his young career. We don’t know much on Boozer, but he is coming off his first loss in his first step up in competition, losing by way of UD in a 6 rounder. I’d expect Boozer to bring all he has to get back to his winning ways. Jamal James is one of the states best at welter and I think this could be a fun one.

Ismail Muwendo (11,0) vs TBD…. Muwendo has one punch knock out power, and lets face it, thats always fun…

What’s up in Minnesota Boxing….

With all the shows coming in January and February there has been a lot of news, but always changing… We are sorry for the delay in getting information up, but want to be as close to accurate as possible, with boxing, that is not easy…Follow MNBoxingLeague on Twitter. and MNBoxingLeague on Facebook. Here is what we know as of today….

December 19, TJ Gibson (1,3) is set to fight another undefeated giant, 260lb Jarrell Miller (3,0) in New York, interesting news given his possible state title match-up with Al Sands at cruiser, more on that later…

Javontae Starks (5,0) is set to return to the ring in January…. Once he gets rolling with fights he will be one to watch at welter and light middle…

January will be a huge month for Minnesota boxing with cards set for the 5th, 19th, and 25th…

January 5, SEG/Area 51, This card features some of Minnesota’s most promising young talent… Robert Brant, Ismail Muwendo, Tyler Hultin, Jamal James, and more… We expect to get full line-up and bout sheet soon….

January 19, Omega Presents, Caleb Truax (20,1,1) vs Matt Vanda (44,14)….. This is a fight fans have talked about for a couple years now. These two know each other well. In the past they have been stable-mates, shared trainers, and have sparred hundreds of rounds together… Now they face off in what is said to be Vanda’s last fight… Can it get much better… More to come on who will be on undercard and ticketing… update, tickets should go on sale today, www.ofights.com

January 25, RDS Boxing, Andy Kolle (25,3) vs Cerresso Fort (14,0,1) This one has fans abuzz, Kolle is coming off of quite a lay-off and broken hand. During that time Fort beat then undefeated Dave Peterson by MD and just fought Brandon Baue, getting a UD victory.. Kolle is ranked #1 at light middle in Minnesota and Fort #2…. This fight is set at 154lbs… Also slated to be on this card are Aaron “Gorilla” Green (8,0) rising Minnesota star and RJ “T-Rex” Laase (9,1) the number ranked welter in Minnesota… Much more on this card in the coming days as well as ticketing…

February has three shows being talked about…

February 9 in Saint Paul is said to have Al Sands (6,1) vs TJ Gibson (1,3) for the MN’s cruiser title. They are ranked 1 and 2 respectively with Sands only loss coming to Gibson by way of stoppage… Interestingly that is the only time Gibson has been given the opportunity to fight at his natural weight, all his losses come at heavy and most against guys weighing 250lbs plus… He is doing that again in just a couple weeks and depending on outcome could affect if this fight happens or not..

Also in February, there have been rumors of a Jungle Boy Boxing show February 1, and a show in Fargo ND…..

We will do our best to keep up with all that is coming up, and hopefully get interviews and full line-ups as these events approach….

Quick Hits, Updated regional card list…

Tomorrow night September 22… Caleb “Golden” Truax, Antonio Johnson, Donny “Drama” Tierney, Antwan Robertson vs Jake Backus and more…

Dustin Mason (right) photo credit, Jesse Kelley, MinnesotaBoxing.com

October 12 at Grand Casino Hinckley will Feature; Aaron “Gorilla” Green (7,0) vs Emerson Chasing Bear (5,3,2) in a 6 rounder, also featured will be RJ “T-Rex” Laase (9,1) vs James Wayka (16,11,1) in an 8 round affair… Also slated to be on card is one of Minnesota’s most exciting and feared fighters, Dustin “Bulll Dog” Mason (3,0) all first round KO’s.

October 27 brings two shows;

Black Bear Casino, Welcome to the Jungle II, featuring Gary “Stone Cold” Eyer (8,2,1) and stable mate Al Sands (5,1). Not a ton out there on this one yet.

Also on October 27,Canterbury Downs, SEG and Area 51 have a really nice fight in Jamal James (7,0) vs Corey Rodriguez (6,2,1), also on the card will be Ismail Muwendo, Perez, Brant and more.

Perez steals the show! Nice night of fights for SEG / Driller Promotions Pro Boxing.

You know a show is pretty good when only complaint is that there may have been too many fights. The show got a bit of a late start but once the action got going it was a very well-matched and fun card to watch.

“Bad” Brad Patraw fought an exciting fight putting Sanders down a number of times in the process. MinnesotaBoxing.com is reporting that Patraw broke his hand in this fight.

Cory Rodriguez got a UD win, Meier vs Benson may have been fight of the night and a ended in a draw. Perez is a star in the making, his second round KO of Philip Adyaka was action packed and impressive, also in running for fight of the night.

Sands (5,1), Green (7,0), and James (7,0) did what they had to, given the opponents put in front of them. Sands fought a debut MMA guy and James had an (0,1) guy, in SEG’s defense both were last minute replacements and Sands opponent was actually a step up from who they were supposed to face. And again, credit goes to Green,Sands, and James for finishing things off early with their overmatched foes.

Ismail Muwendo vs Robert Da Luz was the main. Da Luz is now on a 15 fight losing streak. Muwendo had all four rounds in my opinion but Da Luz came to fight for a couple rounds. Calling him a gate keeper may be a stretch as he didnt come with his own corner and that gate must be wide open as 15 in row have run through it. That said, Muwendo showed all the reason’s we like him. Sharp shots and big power. He is huge at that weight.

All in, hats off to SEG for one of the more entertaining nights of boxing this year. For full coverage and pictures, check out MinnesotaBoxing.com latter today. My opinions come from live stream. Have two sick kids. Listened to Caleb Truax and Dan Cole’s blow by blow. Truax has some great input on the ins and outs of the game both in and out of the ring. He also was very honest in his thoughts on some of the pretty records without learning a ton. Really good hearing that from him. Truax has taken one of the best roads to his position, almost always stepping up competition with each fight. Most in the midwest could learn from that approach. Just my two.

News and notes from what we know about upcoming regional pro boxing dates.

While much is still unknown. We will try and fill in some gaps as to the regional cards coming up over the next 8 weeks.

Robert Brant

August 25, Crown Plaza, Saint Paul MN, SEG/Driller Promotions…….

Aaron “Gorilla” Green (6,0) Heavyweight, Ismail Muwendo (9,0), Jamal James (6,0) and more. The Boxrec on this card is incorrect so I am just giving our highlights. We also always love watching Corey Rodriguez go. Rodriguez was to fight Faulk in what we had pegged as fight of the night. That fell off, but CRod is still on and thats always a good thing. We hope to do a little piece on Mr. Green in the next few days.

September 22, Crown Plaza, Saint Paul MN, RDS Promotions…..

Antonio Johnson, Donny “Drama” Tierney, and more. Have heard some pretty cool rumors, but will wait for more news from the promoter.

September 29, The Aldrich Arena, Maplewood MN, Joy Boy Promotions…..

Have not received much information from promotion. Have heard two WBA sanctioned belts will be on the line. Word is Cerresso Fort, and Jason Litzau will each be fighting in the main and co main. We have been told to wait on their PR team to address further fights. We will provide more info as it comes.

MN Boxing Notes…

Aaron “Gorilla” Green (5,0) is in scary good shape for his fight next Saturday… He’s been in full camp mode for some time and will finally be able to release  all that training and new weapons in less than a week.. Contact team Green for tickets!

Next Saturday, June 16, Boxing is back in Minneapolis MN. RDS and SEG will be bring you; Jason Litzau (28,3), Aaron Green (5,0 all early KO’s), Donny Drama and more… Not a ton of information on full card out there, but it is warm in MN and boxing can take a back seat to fishing, golfing and summer fun… Update: Quote from Jason Litzau’s FB wall… “My opponent has changed, the result will be the same. Two opponents have pulled out, but, a brave mexican has accepted the challenge. I will be fighting him at a higher weight class just to get him to come.

The fight is this Saturday. I will not let happen what happened to Manny Pacquiao. I will not leave it to the judges.

Please buy your tickets from me. I need them for my purse. Please call Bob Van Syckle 732-489-3631 or Eddie Drury 651-353-9001.

Thanks and see you Saturday night at the Hyatt in Minneapolis.”

June 23 will bring more pro boxing action as Cerresso Fort and Dave Peterson go at it in what should be a very fun fight. Fort feels he is ready for the states best, Caleb Truax and Andy Kolle. Peterson’s team has always considered Dave one of the state’s elite fighters. This will be power vs sweet science in most peoples eyes. Can Peterson withstand Fort’s size and power advantage early on? Will Fort make 154 and still have the energy and power to deal with Dave’s slickness? Big fan of both of these guys and can see ways each can win….

T-Rex Promotions plans on bringing some summer fun to the twin ports July 21… This show will feature local favorite RJ “T-Rex” Laase in the main event. The local flavor will continue throughout the night with; Winston Anderson (Cloquet), Joe Lorenzi (Duluth, also owner of Lorenzi’s Boxing in West Duluth), Randy Ronchi (Superior) vs Andrew Selvig (Somebodies 0 must go), Selvig and Ronchi have fought each other in the cage with Ronchi getting the win, and the fight getting fight of the night. Both these guys will come in swinging, very fan friendly fight! Tyler Hultin always brings the action and western MN, Plus much more… …Matchmaker Andy Kolle should have a full line-up soon….
