Kolle, Eyer, and Orozco come away with big wins.

Hinckley Grand Casino hosted another night of great boxing action. There was all out war between Tyler Hultin and Tim Taggart, Hector Orozco stunned the crowd with a huge upset, Gary Eyer showed to be a beast at 126, and Andy Kolle added more proof to why most people have him as one of Minnesota’s finest and somebody who should soon be making a splash on the national scene. Oh yeah, and the ring came crashing down two fights into the night. I heard reports that last night was the largest selling boxing event Hinckley Grand Casino has had and the volume of the fans during Eyer/Patraw and Kolle/Vanda sure seem to attest to that. Below is a quick rundown of last nights events. Laura Zink will also have a report coming later today or tomorrow with more pictures and comments from some of the fighters.

Tyler Hultin Draw Tim Taggart (D48,47Hultin/48,47Taggart/48,48) – Probably the fight of the night. Andy Kolle was right when he predicted that you wouldn’t want to close your eyes for even a second in this one. This fight started with bad intentions in every pop, both guys were seemingly looking for the home run from the get-go. As the fight progressed both fighters seemed to find their fight. Taggart was sticking to trying to overpower with almost every shot while Hultin was using superior boxing skill. During round 4 Hultin went for the fences and the force of his swing put him on his backside and was ruled a slip. As rounds 4 and 5 went on both fighters lost much of the zip on their punches but were still working hard. I had the fight 3 rounds to 2 in favor of Hultin but had no problem with it being ruled a Draw. Great fight.

Don Tierney over Dan Copp (SD40,36Tierney/40,36Copp/39,38Tiernery) – This was a back and forth fight with Donny Drama using better boxing skill and stiffer shots to win the day. It was not a pretty fight but both guys went after it even as they were lacking in strength and stamina towards the end.

Gary Eyer over Brad Patraw (TKO 1:16 2nd) -” Take my breathaway” , That was Eyer’s entrance music for this night and thats just what he did to the fans and Patraw. For the time that it was going on, it was all action. Eyer looked very strong at his new weight and put Patraw down three times in the one and a half rounds they fought. Patraw landed some good shots of his own but Eyer was just overpowering. Some fans were disappointed with the stoppage as was Patraw and his trainers, but talking to several ringside officials, they agreed with the stoppage stating a fighters safety comes first. All action while it lasted, fun fight. It will be interesting to see what is next for Gary “Take My Breath Away” Eyer.

Hector Orozco

Hector Orozco

Hector Orozco over Jeremy McLaurin (UD60,54/58,56/59,55) – To me, this fight looked a lot like their first bout and add two rounds. Orozco looked even more smothering this time and would not stay out of McLaurins face. Many were surprised that like the last fight McLaurin did not use his big height and reach advantage, but in talking with McLaurin it seems Orozco never gave him an opportunity to get that distance. The fight was Hector Orozco stalking McLaurin around the ring for 6 rounds. Jeremy McLaurin did land some big shots but not enough and not nearly enough of the jab. Great win for Orozco.

Andy Kolle over Matt Vanda (UD99,92/97,93/99,92) – Andy “Kaos” Kolle left little doubt last night as to who the best middleweight in the state is. He not only retained his title but almost won every round on many peoples scorecards. I had it 9 rounds to 1 or 8 rounds to 2, to be fair a couple rounds were close. The fight was not like Kolle/Vanda one, Kolle was a machine that fired in straight hard lines and Vanda could never get it figured out. To Vanda’s credit, he was there all night long eating and throwing punches. Most of the fight was Vanda trying to work through Kolles defence while Kolle was shooting a great jab and hard straight lefts. By the last few rounds Vanda’s corner was yelling for the KO as they knew Kolle was way ahead on the scorecards. After the fight Kolle stated his wish to campaign at 154 nationally but also understanding that givin his size, and southpaw stance it is still an uphill climb. Id love to see Kolle get an opportunity with a John Duddy or Julio Cesar Chaves Jr but I’m not too sure if they would be willing to step in with him.

MSC, RDS, and Hickley Grand Casino worked together again to put on a great show even with a ring collapse.

Press Release, “MSC / RDS Card In Hinckley to have Large Duluth Presence”

“MSC/RDS Card In Hinckley to Have Large Duluth Presence”

The Midwest Sports Council/RDS Boxing card taking place at Grand Casino Hinckley features one of the most anticipated rematches in Minnesota history as Duluth’s Andy “Kaos” Kolle defends his state title for the first time in a middleweight fight against Matt “The Predator Vanda.”

Fight fans from the Twin Ports will not only have Kolle to cheer on as undefeated Duluth lightweight “Stone Cold” Gary Eyer has recently agreed to appear on the card against an opponent to be named.  Also appearing on the card will be Fergus Falls, Minnesota’s Tyler Hultin who also fights out of Horton’s Gym in Duluth.  Hultin has verbally agreed to fight Tim Taggart of Hinckley, MN in a 5 round bout at 160 lbs.  Taggart, as many will remember, fought out of Horton’s gym for a brief period two years ago.

MSC matchmaker Cory Rapacz said, “We’re very excited to be featuring this much talent from the Twin Ports on this card.  We all know Andy Kolle’s talent, but I think the fans are going to get a real good show with the Hultin vs. Taggart fight as well.  I think Tyler is next in the line of great Minnesota fighters to come out of Fergus Falls.  Zach Walters had a fantastic career, Kolle is on top of the state right now and it’s obvious that Hultin has the type of charisma and talent to follow in their footsteps.”

With rumblings of a potential fight between Gary Eyer and undefeated Minnesota lightweight Jeremy McLaurin flying around the state, the two will be featured in separate bouts on this card.  “These two will definitely fight.  It makes a ton of sense to happen this year, but right now it’s not something either side is wild about.  They’re both coming off real tough fights and I think they each want one more bout before going head-to-head.  Both will be featured in good fights on the card and we’ve already had preliminary discussions about them possibly meeting in Duluth in either the late Spring or early Summer.”

Andy Kolle and Tyler Hultin will unofficially kick off press for April 2nd‘s show when they square off in an 8 round public workout this Thursday night at Grandma’s in Duluth at the end of the “USA vs. Canada” Golden Gloves card.  Rapacz said, “What a great way to unofficially kick off promotion for this thing!  Anyone who has ever worked out with Andy Kolle knows he will not take it easy on Hultin.  I’m going to do my best to make the trip up there to support this show.  It doesn’t hurt that one of Minnesota’s most exciting fighters, Gary Eyer, is going to see some action either!”

The rest of the card in Hinckley will feature rising prospect Javontae Starks in his first six round bout, amatuer star Jamal James in his pro debut and many more fights.  The final card should be finalized in the coming days.  “This is the start of some great things.”  Rapacz said.  “We’re hoping this is the start of a great working relationship with Chuck, Carinda and everyone at Horton’s Gym.  Issues we’ve had in the past have been worked out and we’re all moving forward.  Already this year we’ve seen Andy Kolle’s return to the Twin Cities and we’ve already had discussions of Javontae Starks’ debut in the Twin Ports.  I think this is a real exciting time to be a fan of Minnesota boxing.”

2010

2010 looks to be a fun year for Minnesota boxing. Matt Vanda and Phil Williams have big fights on the 29th of this month and February has pro boxing in each of its first two weekends. From all I have been told and read both MSC and Seconds Out Promotions plan on another very busy year of boxing. Andy “Kaos” Kolle called out Matt Vanda and Caleb Truax towards the end of 2009 and rumor has it that Kolle/Vanda could be right around the corner if all goes well. The Fistic Mystic reported that there were bids sent out to Hinckley Grand Casino for a Caleb Truax/Kenny Kost fight and Matt Vanda / Andy Kolle 2, with Vanda/Kolle 2 winning out (Fistic also reported that nothing was final on Vanda/Kolle as contracts were not done at that time). Lets hope that both of these fights stay alive or at least some pairing of these four happens. Below are some MN vs MN fights we would love to see in 2010 if things continue to go well for the fighters mentioned. Big national or tv fights rank high in our book, but this is just Minnesota possibilities and we realise some of them may not make sense to the fighters for several reasons.

Andy Kolle vs Caleb Truax – This fight seems a ways off with what has been reported

Andy Kolle vs Matt Vanda – Probably the biggest fight out there in terms of money and turnout

Matt Vanda vs Caleb Truax – Another pipe dream as they share the same gym and trainer

Caleb Truax vs Phil Williams – I really like this fight

Joey Abell vs Raphael Butler – I still would like to see this fight, but dont have much hope of it happening

Gary Eyer vs Jeremy McLaurin – might be too soon for such a meeting, but I love the fight.

Brad Patraw vs Ismail Muwendo – weights are slightly different and this may also be too soon, but I love this fight.

Who was the light heavyweight? Great night of fights at Hinckley Grand Casino

First off, I want to give credit where credit is due. MSC, RDS company, and Hinckley Grand Casino held what has to be one of the years best cards. I want to specifically congratulate Cory Rapacz on the best matched card of the year in my opinion, there was only one fight where the judges were not needed. All but two fights were close in my mind.

This night belonged to Matt Vanda, he is a Minnesota boxing superstar. There is just something about Skeletor/The Predator that feels almost bigger than the fights. His walk to the ring with loud heavy music blaring is really something to be seen in person. Once that first bell rang, this fight pretty much belonged to the teacher. Vanda stalked, landed, joked, taunted, and defended with the aggression and control of guy who knew he was just too much for the less experienced foe.

Vanda took my keys to the fight and threw them out the window. Guess there is a reason he has a MUCH greater boxing mind in his corner, Ron Lyke. Vanda acted and looked to be the stronger man. He landed the much more meaningful punches and was pressing and pushing Williams around the ring with what looked to me to be EASE. This fight was pretty much the exact opposite of what I thought it would be. During the 8th round Vandas corner was yelling “He can’t hurt you”. Phil Williams just looked like he never got started. The Drill maybe let two or three of his bombs fly in this fight, and against a guy with as much experience and understanding of the ring as Matt Vanda, that’s just never going to work for somebody who’s game depends on power. As a guy who sat ringside for Williams fight against Echols, I was baffalled and frustrated at the way The Drill approached this one. Matt Vanda deserves credit for how he outclassed Williams from start to finish. In what to me was a big surprise, the judges scored this a split decision, thankfully the right guy won. (SD, 97,93/ 96,95/ 97,94/ Matt Vanda winner) After the fight I started to ask Phil Williams why he never let his hands go? Before I got the words out of my mouth, Williams said “I know I should have let my hands go”.

The co main event was Wilton Hilario vs Leon Bobo and this one had no chance of being pretty. Hilario came to fight, but you need two to tango. Bobo was fast and allusive, but that is pretty much it. I give credit to Hilario for doing all he could to make it a fight and watchable for the fans. (UD, 78,74/ 78,74/ 79,73/ Wilton Hilario winner)

Lamar Harris vs Cerresso Fort was the fight of the night. Well, the fight of the night if you love toe to toe slug fests, and I do. You could see the bad blood Jesse Kelley of MinnesotaBoxing.com had reported yesterday. These guys were throwing home run swings from the start. Both Harris and Fort had the other hurt at several points.  After this fight there should be no question about the chins of either of these guys. Handling the shots of Harris should leave no question that Fort is strongly in the mix a middle. (UD, 59,56/ 58,54/ 59,55/ Cerresso Fort winner)

Javontae Starks vs Dan Copp was pretty much what all expected it to be, a great debut for Starks. The first round was mostly just testing out the waters. Round two was ended by the vicious body blows Starks was known for as an amateur. (TKO 1:29 of the second, Javontae Starks winner)

The night started with a with a pretty exciting fight. Tim Taggart vs Sam Morales was a slug fest, not much in the way of defense. (MD, 38,38/ 38,38/ 39,37/ last judge scoring for Taggart)

Also on the card was Zach Schumach vs Don Tierney (MD, 38,38/ 39,38/ 39,37/ Zach Schumach winner)

Stay tuned for Laura Zink’s fight report and comments from Vanda and Williams.

Javontae Starks Press Release

Javontae Starks Signs with Midwest Sports Council

For immediate release

Twin Cities, MN-One of the most sought after boxing prospects in the region is off the market today as Javontae Starks has signed a deal with promotional firm Midwest Sports Council.

“I’m just happy to be a pro with a debut date set, and I’m ready to show fans what I can bring to boxing natiowide” Said Starks in regards to the signing.

Starks will be making his debut on November 13 under the much anticipated Phil Williams vs Matt Vanda showdown live on FSN North from Grand Casino Hinckley. No opponent is set thus far but the 20 year old Starks plans to debut at 154 lbs. and eventually drop to 147 lbs. and campaign as a welterweight.

“I’m extremely excited to get an opportunity to work with Javontae and his team. I have been working for the better part of the year to get him to be part of the Midwest Sports Council roster and I’m thrilled we came to a deal that worked for both sides.” Said Cory Rapacz of MSC.

Starks’ professional debut has been widely speculated and anticipated amongst Minnesota boxing fans for the last year or so, and now they have a date to mark on their calendars. Starks joins middleweight Cerresso Fort as another decorated amateur in MSC’s stable. Javontae Starks has tasted success at a regional and national level in the amateurs for some time now and will aim to duplicate his fortune in the professional game.

“I think he’s the most gifted fighter at 154 in this state, and that includes everyone at or talking about fighting at that weight. I think he’s ready for fighters like Tyler Hultin and Michael Faulk right now and I can see him being ready for Dave Peterson by the Spring. Javontae turning pro instantly rejuvenates the talent pool in Minnesota. The sky is the limit for this kid and I am happy to play a small part in helping him reach his potential.” Said Rapacz Starks’ potential on the local boxing scene in Minnesota.

Starks’ debut will be televised on FSN North along with three other fights following that night’s Minnesota Wild game. Tickets are available at grandcasinomn.com.

Zach “Jungleboy” Walters to CO-Main Event Target Center Show Sept. 26

I misspoke below, Zach has the opportunity to face the winner of Vanda/Williams if he can hold up his end by winning on the 26th of September.

Zach “Jungleboy” Walters has been added to the September 26 card at the Target Center. He will co-main event the show with an opponent to be named shortly. Not only that, but Cory Rapacz of MSC has informed me that Walters will be fighting the winner of Matt Vanda vs Phil Williams November 21, again at the Target Center. Wow! This is great news for the boxing fans in Minnesota. Both Phil Williams and Matt Vanda have spent time calling out Zach Walters, now the winner of that fight will get their wish fulfilled. MSC is making quick work of living up to the expectations made by their prior two shows in 2009. There will be much more on this tomorrow.

Phil “The Drill” Williams interview, “The Drill Speaks – Part I”, by Laura Zink

The Drill Speaks – Part I

On fighting Vanda and on Walters

By: Laura Zink

Photo: SnapLocally.com

Just when the pre-promotion machine began to pick up steam, the insults and challenges began to fly, and Minnesota fight fans almost banked on the fact that Phil “The Drill” Williams and Zach “Jungle Boy” Walters would finally meet, the winds of Minnesota match-ups suddenly shifted and set “The Drill” out into very different waters. Just after Walters knocked out “Jammin” James Morrow on June 18th 2009, Williams was offered something that he just couldn’t refuse – a fight against Matt “The Predator” Vanda. Not only was he getting the opportunity to challenge one of Minnesota’s best known fighters, he was going to be able take the challenge in front of 1,000’s of fans as the main event of the Midwest Sports Council’s September 26th show at the Target Center.

It was an offer that many fans did not expect. For starters, Vanda began his career as a welterweight, and fought most of his best fights at a junior middle or middleweight. Williams, he fought most of his fights at light heavy. Not only that, but whatever happened to the fight with Walters? Williams had been calling Walters out for years, and just when it finally seemed that he was going to get his opportunity to fight him this fall, Williams takes a fight with Vanda instead. What happened? Was Williams running? Or was there another reason this “super fight” isn’t happening? I called up “The Drill” and asked him to tell his side of the story and explain why he was fighting Vanda instead of Walters.

drill2“They [Walters’ team] never contacted me for the fight,” Williams proclaimed, “All they ever contacted me for was to give me opponents. They never wanted to give me him [Walters]. Never ever did they try to contact me for a fight. I would have taken it in a heartbeat.”

“I’ve wanted to fight him since early in my career,” Williams added, ““I called him out first in 07. It was June 15th. Father’s Day weekend. I called him out right after I beat Brandon Burke. I grabbed the mic and called him out. Jake Wegner was interviewing me in the ring. That’s where it all began. Zach Walters was sitting right in front of me, and I pointed him out and told him to come into the ring. And he didn’t want to come. I called him out at the event in front of the whole crowd, so there wasn’t no secret about it. I called him out in front of everybody…right in front of him. Ever since then, they [Walters’ team] were trying to put me on cards to fight. They always said that I wasn’t ready, wasn’t ready. Well, they should have taken the fight when I ‘wasn’t ready.’ But now, I don’t think they want no part of me because now I can train. I know what it takes to win now.”

And while Minnesota fight fans will always look forward to a good grudge match, Williams believes that they will appreciate his new match up against Vanda for a completely different reason. According to Williams, this bout has nothing to do with rivalries, it has to do with respect.

“Ah man. I always looked up to Vanda,” Williams said, “I still have a ticket stub from when I saw Vanda fight at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in 2005. I’ve always spoken good on him because he takes all the fights, and win or lose he comes back right again and takes the fight. That’s the respect I have for him…because he is in the fight game. The day that they offered me the fight, I jumped on it so fast because I respect Vanda. I want to challenge myself, and I look up to Vanda. That’s the fight I want. This is business.”

And just when was he offered that fight? According to Williams the first time Vanda’s name was ever mentioned to him as a fight opportunity was the same exact time that Walters was clearing his plate of James Morrow at the fight at Grandma’s on June 18th.

“They [The Midwest Sports Council] brought the contract to me the day of Jungle Boy fought his fight.” Williams said, “I signed it in like 30 minutes. They called me and said, ‘Will you fight Vanda?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ I told him that I don’t turn down fights. They said, ‘You want to fight him at 165?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ I’m down to the weight that I should be at. And after this fight, I’m going to go down to 160 and campaign at middleweight.”

Though Williams signed the contract with no hesitation whatsoever, once the implications of the fight began to sink in, he began to re-evaluate his boxing career and the opportunities this fight could open up for him.

“A while back,” Williams said, “I wasn’t even thinking about fighting Vanda because it was always me and Zach Walters. That’s what I had going on in Minnesota. But when they threw Vanda at me, that really made me think about things. I signed on for the fight first, and then I thought, ‘Wow. This is a really big fight for me. Someone with that much experience and on top of that, he doesn’t get knocked out.’ It will be really interesting for the fans.”

So with old rivalries aside for the time being and new opportunities on the horizon for “The Drill,” how would a win against Vanda change his goals? And would he still be willing to fight Walters?

“I’ll be ready to go national after that,” Williams commented at the idea of a victory over Vanda, “I’ll make him [Walters] chase me. If they [Walter’s team] are ready to give me the right figures, I’ll fight him. But we are gonna have to up the ante now. Now you can’t just pull me into Duluth and offer me anything. He’s gonna have to come to me. We could even fight in the middle. We don’t even have to fight in Minneapolis. We could fight in Hinckley, half-way from the Twin Cities and half-way from there…we can meet in the middle. We can do it like that, but they want to fight it all on their terms. We’re still going to go for it. The only thing is, we don’t have to fight in Duluth anymore. This is business. I don’t even want to talk about it no more. Just sign the contract and fight. Who else is out there for him to fight anyway? Why fight bums when the real fighter is right in your face? I’m right here.”

And “The Drill’s” opinion of what a fight with the “Jungle Boy” would be like?

“The only thing that he banks his fights on is that he can outbeat me in stamina. He’s not faster than me. He’s not stronger than me. He doesn’t have better boxing moves than me. I can fight southpaw and right-handed. He can’t do none of that. He’s a stiff. He’s a tall stiff dude that doesn’t know how to use his height. Period.”

Williams even suggested another way he and Walters could finally get their match-up.

“We could fight before the Vanda fight. They said they would allow it. MSC said that it wouldn’t break my contract with Vanda if I fought Jungle Boy before the Vanda fight. Jungle Boy was my tune-up fight. That’s the way I look at it: a tune-up fight. When we talk he’s real nice, but we’re talking about fighting. To a real fighter, he’s a tune-up fight. I was 167 at the Echols fight, and I will be 165 for Vanda. They better catch me before I go to 160.”

But for now, his contracted fight against Vanda is his top priority. For Williams, this fight is not about grudges, or marketing, or even settling scores. In Williams’ perspective, this fight is about bringing the best fight with the best fighters to Minnesota fight fans in what is currently the biggest fight venue in the state.

“This fight is about fighting the best in Minnesota,” Williams said. “This fight is going to be the big draw in Minnesota. That’s what this fight is going to do, and I’m gonna do it…and it’s either gonna be me or him. That’s why I’m taking the Vanda fight. It’s going to be a good fight. And I am doing this for the fans. I’m fighting this fight to give the fans the fight that they want to see…and they want to see a knockout.

A few changes.

boxAs I am sure you have noticed, we are starting to allow comments through. I am sorry that it is a slow process, but we have made the decision to have all comments go through moderation before going live. Unfortunately its the only way to keep things from going out of control. This isn’t a forum, but since we don’t have writers on all corners of the state its one way to get other points of view. We will be very strict on language and low blows. This means if you have something less than nice to say about a fighter, make sure your reasoning is ring based or about something they have said in print, on my site, or another web site. You can pretty much go after me as much as you see fit, as long as you don’t curse or get vulgar. Our interviews will be a little different, we will be most strict in this portion of moderation. These professional boxers are taking time out of their busy schedules to let us learn more about them, respect will be of highest importance. On our opinion pieces we will be most lax, as its our opinion and I know everyone has one.

vanda-pudwill

I plan on getting back to more interviews from around the state. This is a fan site and I make no secret about my support of fighters from all across our great state. We will cover boxing events put on by all promoters. I love all shows, big and small. It looks like there will be a few more voices heard as well. There is someone in the twin cities that plans on helping in our coverage . As you have seen, Laura Zink, has been doing GREAT work for us in recent weeks,(Fight review for Seconds Out last Hinckley show, and the Bridge Battle II final report), and has some plans to bring her professional writings skills to interviews as well. MNboxingleague.com is based out of Duluth but has no connection to any promotion here or anywhere in the state. Obviously, with great pros like Andy “Kaos” Kolle and Zach “Jungleboy” Walters in our backyard you will still see plenty of them. Chuck Horton is one of the best trainers in the state, and anyone who has gone to his shows, knows they are a good time. All that being said, I am a huge fan of Tony Grygelko and Seconds Out Promotions. Nobody has brought more boxing in the last few years. MSC brought the SUPER fight between “Kaos” and “The Bullet” , now they have the great match up of Williams/Vanda and possibly Jason Litzau/Wilton Hilario. Again, I love it all. Contrary to popular belief, I have not been paid by any promotion. I have helped out with Horton’s last couple shows, mainly connecting them with iFan.tv and talking to a few sponsors, but, due to lack of time I plan on going back to being a fan and covering all Minnesota boxing to best of my abilities. And with help already here, and other help that has been offered, I think we will be able to do this better than ever.

Lastly, I would love to get your input as to who you would like to see interviewed. You can also give us some questions you would like to see answered. And if you think you would like to start adding your two cents to our site, just let us know.

Best Regards,

Todd

Things to look forward to.

Update: I have just been informed by MSC that they have pulled their bid for the Joey Abell/Raphael Butler fight and are not pursuing at this time.

With so much action in the local boxing scene, I thought  I would go over whats been talked about and whats been signed. During iFan.tv’s webcast of Bridge Battle II, Tony Grygelko and I had some time to talk about all the super fights to come in the next 6 to 12 months, and I thought I would share what we talked about as well as the one confirmed big fight.

Matt “The Predator” Vanda vs Phil “The Drill” Williams / Sept. 26 Target Center / MSC

This fight is signed and has a date at the Target Center. I am looking forward to seeing how Phil fairs against the very tough Vanda. Matt’s had trouble with the bigger fellas in the past but they had much more experience than The Drill does. Great match up of size and style. Really looking forward to this one.

Andy “Kaos” Kolle vs “Golden” Caleb Truax / date and place of a ?/ Horton’s Gym Promotions and Seconds Out Promotions?

calebtruax_newlrg

The fight is not signed but there has been a gentleman’s agreement between Tony Grygelko and Chuck Horton. Andy Kolle is the Minnesota Middleweight champ with victories over Anthony “The Bullet” Bonsante and Matt Vanda. “Golden” Caleb Truax is thought to be one of our states future stars as well as the top contender to Kolles title. I love this fight. Its always great to see the best against the best.

No matter who the promoter ends up being or where it is fought, this is a must see match up for all true boxing fans. Jason Litzau has gone further in the national scene than any current Minnesota fighter. Wilton Hilario just got done taking care of Allen Litzau and is ready to bring his name to the top of the MN fighter list. The rumors are that this could be part of the Sept 26 card at Target Center, but I have also heard it could headline a date at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul for Seconds Out Promotions.

Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell vs Raphael Butler / date and place?/ rumors for both MSC and Seconds Out Promotions

A fight Minnesota boxing fans have been waiting on for a long time. Nothing brings out the people like a good heavyweight match up. And as far as Minnesota heavy’s go, it doesn’t get any bigger than this. Rumors have had this fight taking place at the Target Center for MSC, but it is also rumored that Seconds Out Promotions will be handling the affair. Again, either way, I can not wait to see the big fellas in action.

Zach “Jungleboy” Walters vs Phil “The Drill” Williams / was to be this fall / Horton’s Gym Promotions

Phil had been very vocal about this fight for the last few months. Not really sure why he decided against it but his Target Center date would be hard to pass up. I really hope The Drill wasn’t just all talk. I really like Phil and the times I have been able to talk with him have been a pleasure. I think he is a good guy and was given an offer he could not refuse. Hopefully if Phil can beat Vanda he will be ready to step in there with somebody his own size. He has been asking for Zach and Zach has been saying yes. It will be interesting to see if Phil really has meant all he has said.

Zach “Jungleboy” Walters vs Matt “The Predator” Vanda/ Vanda just called out Zach the day of Zach last fight

I’m sure if the offer was serious, Zach would give him the opportunity. Well, that’s my thought.

Wow!!! Matt “The Predator” Vanda signed to fight Phil “The Drill” Williams.

Other breaking news: MSC has informed me that they have Matt Vanda signed to fight Phil Williams September 26 at the Target Center. Both of these men have spent time calling out Zach “Jungleboy” Walters, now they face each other. Winner gets Zach? I don’t know. But this is a very exciting announcement.

Just my thoughts, but if I were Phil, I would rather fight Vanda then Walters as well. Vanda’s best weight was at 147 and the signed fight weight will be at 165. Vanda’s losses to; Anthony Bonsante, Andy Kolle, and Kenny Kost were at a little under 160 and most people thought that was just too heavy for Vanda. All this being said, you have to credit Vanda for wanting to take on some of Minnesota’s best.
