MN fights we would love to see at middleweight, feel free to add your thoughts in comments.

Below is a list of MN vs MN fights we would like to see at or around middleweight. And yes, I understand most of this is dream land, business, and timing play into all ring action. This is purely a fan wish-list. Please feel free to add your thoughts and comments. Due to some spammers, our comments are only open for a week following original post. Thanks…

Andy “Kaos” Kolle (25,3) vs Caleb “Golden” Truax (18,1) – Would love to see this fight again at a catch weight of 157. Money and national fights will most likely keep this fight from happening in the near future. Lets hope not….

Caleb “Golden” Truax (18,1) vs Matt Vanda (44,14) – Makes all kinds of sense on all levels….

Caleb “Golden” Truax (18,1) vs Cerresso Fort (13,0,1) – Again, think this fight makes sense on all levels….

Andy “Kaos” Kolle (25,3) vs Cerresso Fort (13,0,1) – Makes a ton of sense for both sides, but any fight involving Kolle will need to wait on his left hand healing. (Kolle could be ready in fall / but may not be fighting until 2013-more on hand in the coming weeks)

Cerresso Fort (13,0,1) vs Antonio Johnson (8,1) – Would be a really nice 154lb fight. Both guys have a fan base…

Cerresso Fort (13,0,1) vs Dave Pederson (13,1) – The first fight was a really good one, and I’d love to see it again… Fort got the W but there were enough who had Peterson winning that this needs to happen again.

As you can see, you can pretty much mix and match these guys for some seriously fun fights. Truax 160+ and Kolle 154+ are head of class and nationally opportunities, injuries, and business probably make these two the hardest to put in any of the above mentioned. I personally think we will see Truax and Vanda when Vanda’s suspension is lifted.

News and notes… Debate rages on…

The past few boxing shows have told us, while some things change, most stay the same….

The Highly debated Cerresso Fort (13,0,1) vs Dave Peterson (13,1) fight did little to settle rankings in what is becoming MN’s best weight division… Fort got the MD win but spectators seem to be at a 50/50 split. Many watching feel, Javontae Starks and Antonio Johnson are right there with Fort and Peterson. The other thing realized by most, the buck stops with Truax and Kolle in the middle weights… Little question was left as to where Kolle (25,3) stands at (154), tops. And Truax (18,1) holds the only legitimate MN belt at middle (160).

Aaron “Gorilla” Green (6,0) has what it takes to go the distance. While some fans would have loved to have seen another stoppage June 16 at the Hyatt, going 6 full rounds may have been the best thing that could have happened. The victory was every bit as decisive as a stoppage, but Gibson wasn’t going down that night…

Does Jamal James (6,0) relatively easy victory over Hector Orozco (5,12) put James right up there in the top two or three at welter in Minnesota?

Al Sands (4,1) is taking care of the business put in front of him. Fans would love to see him try and get that W back from TJ Gibson (1,3) or maybe take on Butler (1,0). Not sure how many more give-me’s Duluth fans will want to see. Building a fighter is one thing, but a live opponent is much more palatable. His last two fights have been the easiest opponents of his career and do little if nothing in helping him learn, but they do count as wins and that is what the team seems to be shooting for.

Things we’ve been hearing since the regions last three shows…..

Truax vs Fort, Kolle vs Fort, Kolle vs Truax 2, and Fort vs Peterson 2 seem to be the biggest local fights to be made….

Peterson or Fort vs Starks or Antonio Johnson all make sense as well…

Could RJ Laase (8,1) vs Jamal James (6,0) be heating up?

Tony Lee (6,1) vs Jeremy McLaurin (9,3) at 130 needs to happen…

Fort wins exciting fight….

Cerresso Fort (13,0,1) won a split decision over Dave Peterson (13,1) last night. Both fighters put on a really good show. Fort seemed to dictate the action throughout landing the harder shots. Dave’s boxing skills were evident early and throughout until the 8th when Fort pretty much controlled things. I had Fort ahead in a close fight.

Jamal James (6,0) over Hector Orozco (5,12) by UD. James won almost every round on the judges score cards. Orozco was game as always and didn’t make it easy on Jamal James. If Jamal had any rust, Hector was knocking that off early in his relentless attack, James length and superior boxing skill was just too much.

Richard Hargraves (3,0) won by UD over Michael Faulk (2,2)

Al Sands (4,1) extended Kia Daniels (6,7) first round loss streak. Kia didnt want to be there from the get-go and went down after first touch…

I watched via ifan.tv stream. Go to MinnesotaBoxing.com for full results…. Jesse Kelley was there for all the fights.

Predictions for Fort / Peterson in Carlton MN tonight….

Here is our predictions to Fort vs Peterson tonight in carlton and streamed GFL…..

Cerresso Fort (12,0,1) vs Dave Peterson (13,0) 8 rounds at light middle – I can think of ways  both guys take this… Peterson is supposed to be the slicker fighter while Fort packs the bigger bombs. If pressed, we pick Fort by stoppage inside of 4, but would not be shocked if Peterson got a decision…. Like both fighters…

Al Sands (3,1) vs Kia Daniels (6,6) 6 rounds cruiser – Kia hasn’t made it out of the first in a few years… Should be easy work for Sands…

Michael Faulk (2,1) vs Richard Hargraves (2,0,1) 6 rounds – Both guys have potential. If Faulk works more than his D I think he takes an SD.

Jamal James (5,0) vs Hector Orozco (5,11) 6 rounds welter – James won a UD against Orozco last time out. That was the last time James has been in the ring while Orozco has stayed very busy. James wins by UD, unless Orozco can stay inside.

Davalance Depoe (debut) vs John Kingbird (debut) 4 rounds heavy – No idea, We dont know anything on either fighter….

Jerome LeBarge (debut) vs Matthew Karaja (debut) 4 rounds light heavy – No idea, grooming Sands next opponent?

Cory Thompson (debut) vs Stanley Lewis (0,5) 4 rounds – Thompson by first or second round stoppage…

Charles Goodwin (1,0) vs Cory Briggs (debut) 4 rounds – Goodwin early stoppage…

MN Boxing Notes…

Next Saturday, June 16, Boxing is back in Minneapolis MN. RDS and SEG will be bring you; Jason Litzau (28,3), Aaron Green (5,0 all early KO’s), Donny Drama and more… Not a ton of information on full card out there, but it is warm in MN and boxing can take a back seat to fishing, golfing and summer fun… Update: Quote from Jason Litzau’s FB wall… “My opponent has changed, the result will be the same. Two opponents have pulled out, but, a brave mexican has accepted the challenge. I will be fighting him at a higher weight class just to get him to come.

The fight is this Saturday. I will not let happen what happened to Manny Pacquiao. I will not leave it to the judges.

Please buy your tickets from me. I need them for my purse. Please call Bob Van Syckle 732-489-3631 or Eddie Drury 651-353-9001.

Thanks and see you Saturday night at the Hyatt in Minneapolis.”

June 23 will bring more pro boxing action as Cerresso Fort and Dave Peterson go at it in what should be a very fun fight. Fort feels he is ready for the states best, Caleb Truax and Andy Kolle. Peterson’s team has always considered Dave one of the state’s elite fighters. This will be power vs sweet science in most peoples eyes. Can Peterson withstand Fort’s size and power advantage early on? Will Fort make 154 and still have the energy and power to deal with Dave’s slickness? Big fan of both of these guys and can see ways each can win….

T-Rex Promotions plans on bringing some summer fun to the twin ports July 21… This show will feature local favorite RJ “T-Rex” Laase in the main event. The local flavor will continue throughout the night with; Winston Anderson (Cloquet), Joe Lorenzi (Duluth, also owner of Lorenzi’s Boxing in West Duluth), Randy Ronchi (Superior) vs Andrew Selvig (Somebodies 0 must go), Selvig and Ronchi have fought each other in the cage with Ronchi getting the win, and the fight getting fight of the night. Both these guys will come in swinging, very fan friendly fight! Tyler Hultin always brings the action and western MN, Plus much more… …Matchmaker Andy Kolle should have a full line-up soon….

Notes from around the region’s pro boxing scene…

Dustin "Bull Dog" Mason, photo courtesy Ben Smolnikar

Dustin “Bull Dog” Mason’s broken right hand puts a pretty big damper on a couple upcoming cards. He was set to fight Brad Patraw (7,4) June 16 and depending on how that fight went would have been making a pretty big step up in competition and fighting in the co main July 21. Team Bull Dog is sick about his injury and is thankful to RDS, Brad Patraw, and T-Rex Promotions for the opportunities they had set for him and wants his fans to know he will get the right procedures done and come back stronger than ever and ready for even bigger fights….

MinnesotaBoxing.com is reporting that Jason Litzau (28,3) is in New Jersey preparing for his return to action at the Hyatt in Minneapolis MN June 16 (RDS Promotions). Litzau is set to fight Leon Bobo in the main event….

Word is both Cerresso Fort and Dave Peterson are training harder than ever for their showdown June 23 (Draw Events, Jungle Boy Boxing). Worries about Fort making weight are fading as he is looking leaner than ever….. There is still no opponent named for Al Sands….

T-Rex Promotions plan to start announcing fights next week for their July 21 show at Wessman Arena. RJ “T-Rex” Laase (8,1) and team plan on taking their biggest step-up to date in the main event. Tyler Hultin, Winston Anderson, and Joe Lorenzi have all verbally committed to this card. Should be another full house for great fights….

RDS Promotion’s main is set for June 16…Notes on upcoming shows…

Jason Litzau (28-3) vs Leon Bobo (18-9-1) will headline June 16th’s show at the Hyatt in Minneapolis….. This will be Jason’s first home fight in several years….The show looks to be complete and a good one… Green/Gibson, Patraw/Mason also featured.

June 23

Cerresso Fort (12,0,1) vs Dave Peterson (13,0) will headline this show to be held at Black Bear Casino. Draw Events and Jungle Boy Boxing’s first stab at promoting pro boxing brings a nice main. The Fort/Peterson fight will be an 8 rounder. They have added rounds to all their fights now and it looks like Al Sands will be stepping up to a 6 rounder but no opponent named yet. I commend Draw Events, for in the end deciding to go with an ABC member commission.

July 21

T-Rex Promotions with MNBoxingLeague.com will be putting on another show at Wessman Arena in Superior WI. RJ “T-Rex” Laase will be headlining the card in his stiffest fight to date. Tyler ” Hit Man” Hultin, Dustin “Bull Dog” Mason (Mason has business to take care of June 16 first), and  Winston Anderson will all be featured along with several more exciting fights. Andy “Kaos” Kolle will be heavily involved in the business side of this show while his broken left hand is healing….

Really looking forward to seeing Jason Litzau back in action in MN. Patraw vs Mason has been brewing ever since Mason turned pro, should be fireworks. Green vs Gibson may be Green’s stiffest challenge yet (Gibson KOed Al Sands last fall). Everyone is excited to see what amateur standout Rob Brant will do as a pro…..

Here is the June 23 card as it stands today. Boxrec.com June 23, Black Bear Casino, Carlton, MN.

Jungle Boy and Draw Events

Al Sands (3,1) vs TBA ? rounds

Cerresso Fort (12,0,1) vs Dave Peterson (13,0) ? rounds

Michael Faulk (2,1) vs Richard Hargraves (2,0,1) ? rounds

Davalance Depoe (Debut) vs John Kingbird (Debut) ? rounds

Jerome LeBarge (Debut) vs Matthew Karaja (Debut) ? rounds

Fort vs Peterson could be interesting, new weight for Fort and Peterson has only one fight since 2009. Sands will look to continue to rebuild from his stunning loss to Gibson last fall, his handlers got him a quick win and it will be interesting to see what they feel he is ready for. Faulk has been in training camps with some of the best, love to see what he has. The rest of the card is unknowns. Tried all the normal fight information sites but nothing, have to go and find out…..

Quick Notes….

Cory Rapacz (matchmaker for RDS) informed me last night that that June 16th show will feature most of the same fights secured for the May 12 show that was moved due to the main event falling off. This extra time will allow for a quality main event replacement….

Jason “The American Boy” Litzau (28,3) has said he is now fighting on RDS’s June 16 show at the Hyatt in Minneapolis MN… Without being informed by RDS or Cory Rapacz, I can only assume this will have something to do with the new main event…. But there are other exciting rumors out there as well.

Most of the the fighters that were to have fought May 12 are quite upbeat about the date change to June 16. A date move is much better than a date cancel. Green, Patraw, Mason, and Brant are all looking forward to taking care of business June 16….. Dustin Mason has told me he is going to maintain weight and take this time to even further sharpen his readiness…

Vicente Alfaro (5,1) is training hard looking to get in on one of these upcoming midwest cards. It’s been over a year since Alfaro has had the opportunity to display his skills in the ring and he is more than ready to be given that chance…

Jungle Boy Promotions card set for June 23 has not announced any new fights for their card. Cerresso Fort (12,0,1) vs Dave Peterson (13,0) will headline. Michael Faulk (2,1) is said to be fighting as well as Al Sands (3,1). Sands is coming off of a tune-up win and looks to be who the promotion is trying to build upon….

Still waiting on a time table for Andy “Kaos” Kolle’s (25,3) hand… We will keep you posted….

T-Rex Promotions still looking towards July/August for their next show…

Love major PPV fight weeks, Mayweather/Cotto only days away…. There are rumors of some MN guys fighting on the undercards of some of this summers biggest shows…. Hoping for details in the near future…
