A conversation with Minnesota’s middleweight champ Kaos. Andy “Kaos” Kolle Interview

Its only days away, the showdown between Minnesota’s middleweight champ Andy “Kaos” Kolle and Matt Vanda April 2 at Hinckley Grand Casino. There have been several big MN vs MN showdowns, but few live up to the hype. Vanda/Kolle 1 did more than live up to the hype, it was a fan friendly war in the ring with Kaos coming away with the win and in his words “a great time.”  I have yet to talk to anybody who was not entertained by the first installment of the fight. Kolle/Vanda 2 should be all that and more. Vanda has much to prove after Manfredo as well as just needing another good win to stay in the mix nationally. Kolle has much more to lose in this fight; he already has a win against Vanda, he is the Minnesota middleweight champ, he is coming off of three impressive KO’s.  But the bottom line is this, Kolle/Vanda 2 has all the makings for the biggest event of the year. Neither Kolle or Vanda are going to back down from anybody and that includes each other. No matter who you are pulling for, this fight should please. Below is a recent conversation we had with Andy “Kaos” Kolle.

M….After having that huge victory over Bonsante and following it up with another great KO of Shuler, was it hard watching guys like Vanda and Truax having all those fights in 2009?

Kolle….Yes, very hard. Especially after winning that fight against Bonsante, we really wanted to ride that out, and were hoping to be able to do that nationally, unfortunately that’s not how it worked out. It is what it is.

M…. Why do you think it has been difficult to get some national fights?

Kolle…. I’m the type of fighter right now that without that big money backing, its high risk low reward for them to fight somebody who has been knocking people out.

M…. Do you see any big fights coming to the twin ports in the near future?

Kolle….I honestly don’t know about that, that’s Chucks business. Too much political stuff that I don’t get in to.

M….A lot of guys seem to be very hands-on as far as career path and active in helping to pick out who they fight next, how involved are you in that process or do you let Chuck Horton do most of that?

Kolle….I will let him know if there is somebody Id like to fight. But just like with Bonsante and Vanda, Chuck will bring up the name and I will say yes.

M….One of the really cool things I have been able to see over the last year and a half is the growth in skill and physicality of some of Minnesota’s boxers. You are one those who really has grown both physically and mentally. Can you share some of what you have been doing?

Kolle….

I take this job very seriously, its my life. I wake up in the morning and I have a workout routine I go through. Its different every day, Kettle Bells, Tire slams, unconventional kinds of stuff, and then I go to the gym for a few hours in the afternoon and do my running at night, running the hills of Duluth. Over the last year and a half I have really taken my mind out of everything else and concentrated on boxing. Ever since that Paul Williams fight I have wanted to come back and make a statement in a major way.

M….Do you workout everyday of the week? Are there any days you take off?

Kolle….Sundays, 4 days a week strength, 5 days a week boxing, 6 days a week running and Sunday I don’t do anything. I think rest is also very important.

M….Your last fight against Pat Coleman was at First Ave in MPLS, how did it feel to have such crowd support in the twin cities?

Kolle….It felt awesome. It was a smaller show, club show, but it was awesome knowing I had the whole crowd that was backing me, not just the crowd thats been following me for years but new people as well. It felt good.

M….Most people were quite impressed with you in your last fight against Coleman. Did you feel any ring rust getting in there?

Kolle….No, I didn’t feel any ring rust at all. I stay active even when I don’t have a fight, I’m always working out and sparring.

M….How did it feel fighting Coleman? To me it almost seemed like he was willing to just stand in his shell and maybe just get through the night?

Kolle….He seemed like he was just trying to survive. He had a good guard and would get in his shell, that’s why I had to do a few things different and get him to open up.

M….Coleman’s corner kept yelling for him to through the right. Is that something you heard, were you trying to draw him in?

Kolle….Thats just basic boxing 101 from a trainer that didn’t have any idea what he should do. That’s the first thing to tell a right-handed fighter who is fighting a southpaw.

M….154, that is a weight we had talked about a year ago, is it just really hard to find fights there right now?

Kolle….Also when we talked about that I told you unless its a Minnesota fight, then I will defend at 160. Last summer I was ready to fight at 154 but my opponent came in way over. I still weighed in at 155.

M….So the plan is to stay at 154 for national fights?

Kolle….That’s what I want. I feel that is the size for me on the national level. Those guys are big, even look at the size Pat Coleman was in my last fight.

M….Matt Vanda, what comes to mind?

Kolle….He is the type of fighter that fans like to see. He has proven himself and he has that fan base for a good reason, he gives them what they want. Even on the national level, he’s been beaten, but he always shows up.

M….There are those who see this as a high risk low reward type fight. Why this fight and why now?

Kolle….After our last fight, I told him I would give him another. He has earned that rematch with what he has done since then. I gave him my word.

M….Does the fact that Vanda lost almost every round to Manfredo make this fight hard from the standpoint of what you have to do to make it worth it?

Kolle….No, Ive just got to beat him and it really doesn’t matter how you do it. Styles make fights and Manfredo has a different style than I do and John Duddy has a different style than I do and so on. My goal is to win every round I fight, but I don’t have to, I just need to win more rounds than him. I would like to take him out, but my goal is to win.

M….Speaking of some of those guys Vanda has had the good fortune to get in the ring with, Manfredo, Duddy, Chaves Jr., Would you like the chance to get in there with them and how different would the outcomes be?

Kolle….I would love to get in the ring with Duddy or Chaves. They have talked about fighting at 154 and I would love to do it. We had an offer for Duddy but his team decided they didnt want it.

M….Given that the names we mentioned were unable to take Matt out, does that give you added motivation for the KO and do you think that would get you more national exposure?

Kolle….It would maybe open eyes but probably close some checkbooks.

M….There are those who think you are trying to avoid Caleb Truax, I don’t think either of you are avoiding the other, but what are your thoughts?

Kolle….There is no part of me avoiding Caleb Truax, I would fight that kid anytime and anywhere. Now he’s fighting Phil. I am ready for you Caleb anytime you want it.

M….So its just been that there has not been a date, contract, money or any details ever hammered out?

Kolle….To be honest I dont know all the ins and outs. All I know is after the Target Center show I came in the ring and asked for Matt and Caleb. Matt came to the table first. Caleb had a cut I think. Im not saying Caleb’s scared. We both have managers and guys that take care of our fights. I am ready to fight him any time.

M….Andy Kolle vs Matt Vanda to many people is the biggest fight out there in Minnesota, how do you see it?

Andy "Kaos" Kolle, Courtesy Walters Photography

Andy "Kaos" Kolle, Courtesy Walters Photography

Kolle….

I do believe it is the biggest fight in Minnesota right now, I have the belt for Minnesota and he brings one of the biggest challenges. You know going to a Vanda fight you will get your money’s worth and you know I am going to bring it every time too. Two guys who are not afraid to throw punches, you wont see lulls in action like you do in some others.

M…. As a guy who likes to go after it himself, is it extra exciting to fight a guy like Vanda who you know will bring it?

Kolle….That first fight with Vanda was the most fun I have ever had in the ring, just going at it, throwing all caution to the wind, that was a blast. That probably wasn’t the way I should have fought him, but it was my first big fight and I wanted everyone to know I am right here too. That’s another reason I wanted that rematch because that first one was a blast.

M….I have watched your first fight with Vanda many times, and every time I have you winning on points pretty clearly, but there are some Vanda fans who just don’t see it that way. How do you feel about that victory?

Kolle….The fans that say he won that fight are the same ones who feel he won the Garr fight. They are good fans and they are sticking up for their boy, but I won that fight. When I watch it I think I maybe lost two rounds, one being the round Igot knocked down.

M….There has been much talk about the one knock down from your fight with Vanda, tell us about it.

Kolle….. It was the first time I had been down so I took my time getting back up. I’ve seen fighters to eager to get off the mat only to get hit again. I took my time and dominated the rest of that round and fight.

M….Matt Vanda has had big wins against Phil Williams, Ted Muller, and Tocker Pudwill in the last 12 months. Do you think Vanda is better today than the guy you fought a couple years ago?

Kolle….Yeah, that is another reason for the rematch. He has gotten better and earned it. That’s what I want, I want a challenge. I have gotten better since our fight, I don’t want the same Vanda I fought two years ago, I want the challenge of a better Vanda.

M….What makes Vanda better today?

Kolle….I think he is a lot stronger and more comfortable in the ring. He is more of a polished pro now.

M….Most people who have fought Vanda talk about how tough he is to get down. Does that play on your mind at all, make you want to take him out that much more?

Kolle….Everybody wants to be the first guy to put somebody down. That’s not really my thoughts on this fight, get the win and move on.

M….How many fights would you like to have this year? Or are you more to the point of just wanting quality fights?

Kolle….I’d rather have quality fights than number of fights. 5 fights in a year is a pretty stacked schedule for someone who is fighting 10 rounders all the time.

M….After Vanda, would you like to continue to clean up the state or would you like to begin to again test the national waters?

Kolle….I have big dreams. I would like to fight outside of Minnesota and help establish this thing our boxing has going here. If your from New York or California you don’t want to be the best in your state, you want to compete with the best from all over.

M….So you are more than ready to go on another promoters card from New York or Vegas as long as it is a well matched opportunity?

Kolle….Like I said, I would love to fight guys like Duddy or Chaves Jr.

M….Any thoughts on Phil Williams vs Caleb Truax?

Kolle….I don’t really know, I think its going to be who gets to who first. I don’t know that it will go the distance. I am pulling for Truax to win it.

M….You have already said you would fight Truax, what about Williams if he were to win?

Kolle….Absolutely, if Williams can come in and make 160. That’s the same with Truax, its 160lbs.

M….What are your thoughts on Gary Eyer vs Brad Patraw?

Kolle….Im excited for that fight. Gary goes for it every time, and from what I have seen of Brad, he isn’t afraid of throwing punches either. That should be a fun one while it lasts, but I don’t expect it to make the distance.

M….The battle of your buddies, Tyler Hultin vs Tim Taggard. I know you’re friends with both guys, but how do you see this fight?

Kolle….That’s a tough fight for me, Tyler has been my boy for a long time and Timmy has become a friend of mine, he lived with me for a while. The only thing I can say about that fight is you are not going to want to blink. It will be all out while it lasts.

Andy Kolle and Tyler Hultin Turn on Horton / Golden Gloves Boxing Results from Grandma’s Sports Garden

uscanadaGrandma’s Sports Garden hosted another fun evening of Golden Gloves Boxing. Along with 8 Golden Gloves bouts there was a dance-off, great music by the lead singer of Arch Allies, and three public workouts. 3 or 4 fights into the night Pimp James and Winston Anderson’s little bro challenged Chuck Horton to a dance-off, and well, lets just say James and the little guy won. After the Golden Gloves boxing was through, Gary Eyer got in the ring and went a few rounds with Speedy Monchamp as a kick-start to training camp for his upcoming fight April 2 in Hinckley. Eyer also went a couple rounds with Andy Kolle before Tyler Hultin stepped in with Kaos for 6 rounds. During the Kolle/Hultin public workout things got a little hairy for Mr. Horton as both Kolle and Hultin turned on their coach and delivered some pretty nice body blows. Gary Eyer, Tyler Hultin and Andy Kolle will all be fighting April 2 at Hinckley Grand Casino.

The fight of the night was Will Mathews (Horton’s Gym) vs Zack Zontelli (Golden-Lakes Brainerd) followed closely by Jordan Berg (Moore Boxing Club) vs Rick Hatcher (Golden-Lakes Brainerd). Below are the full results from last nights event.

The night began with Duluth Mayor Don Ness handing Zach Walters a signed certificate proclaiming January 21, 2010, to be Zach “Jungle Boy” Walters Day and finished with a tribute to the champ. Grandma’s was packed with fans ready to watch some Golden Gloves Boxing in honor of Walters and the amateurs did not let them down. Fighters from; Hortons Gym, Golden-Lakes Brainerd, International Falls, Lincoln Park, Perham, Hibbing, Gary New-Duluth, Lakeside and Moore Boxing Club took part in the Golden Gloves portion. Winston Anderson and Randall Gouge, Jr. probably had the fight of the night with Anderson winning the close contest. After the Golden Gloves fights were over Al Sands had a public workout with TJ Gibson. Sands and Gibson had a spirited workout and Chuck Horton told Gibson there would be a spot for him in Horton’s pro boxing lineup.

As the evening was coming to a close Welcome To the Jungle came screaming from the speakers and Zach “Jungle Boy” Walters and his team made their way through excited fans as he made his final ring entrance. Once in the ring Chuck Horton pointed the crowd to the big screen where some of Walters finer moments were being played. Horton reminded the crowd of Jungle Boy’s many accomplishments and invited his and Zach’s families into the ring as well as team Horton. Pimp James asked the crowd if they were ready to Jungle, and they were.

Golden Glove Amateur Boxing Returns with the first fights of the season starting this Thursday evening at Grandma’s Sports Garden in Duluth, MN. Grandma’s and Horton’s Gym team up to bring the second installment of “Golden Gloves at the Garden Returns”. Golden Gloves is back by popular demand…last year’s success attracted large crowds to the Canal Park area to watch talented youth displaying great physical and mental strength in the ring. Carinda Horton of Horton’s Gym stated, “These monthly events provide great entertainment and fun for the fans, increased revenue for local businesses, and support amateur boxers who train extremely hard to achieve positive results in and out of ring”.

The doors for “Golden Gloves at the Garden Returns” will open at 5:00 pm with the first bout beginning at 7:00 pm. The best up-and-coming prospects of the Twin Ports will be taking on some of the best talent from around the state. Ticket prices are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. $10 if you buy your ticket from a boxer. Kids under 5 are free. Advanced tickets can be purchased by calling 218-310-5200.

There is also a scheduled Press conference at 3PM Thursday with: Zach Walters, Andy Kolle, Gary Eyer and Chuck Horton.

They plan on informing the media on what they are doing as well as what their future plans are.

Walters may not be fighting at the Target Center, but that did not stop his name from coming up

Jesse Kelley of MinnesotaBoxing.com has coverage from last weeks press conference for the Target Center show to be held September 26. You can read about it here. I had heard from a couple different sources that respect for Zach Walters and Chuck Horton was no where to be found. Phil “The Drill” Williams and Matt Vanda showed plenty of respect for each other, but when Walters was mentioned, that respect went by the wayside. According to a couple people who attended, Walters and Horton took a verbal beating from Williams and Vanda. Both guys basically claiming Walters record was inflated and that he didn’t want to fight any real fighters. Similar things were said of how Horton manages his fighters. Again, I will try to get a response from the Horton camp.

Update: Zach Walters got back to me and said he has no comment at this time.

Update: Chuck Horton also got back to me, he too has no comment at this time.

There will be no “Wecome to the Jungle” for the Target Center

Update:  ”I guess our offer just wasn’t what they were looking for. That’s fine, no hard feelings. They are going to always do what is best for Jungle Boy. I hope they are open to listening to offers in the future, and if not I’ll certainly understand.” Cory Rapacz, MSC

Cory Rapacz (matchmaker MSC) has announced that Zach ”Jungleboy” Walters will not be fighting on the September 26 Target Center card.  The full line up for the show is up on boxrec.com. I will try and check with Walters and team Horton to find out what their new plans are.

While I am at it I will try and see whats happening with Andy Kolle, Gary Eyer, and RJ Laase. Hopefully we will be seeing the Duluth pros in the near future.

In a brief text conversation I had with Chuck Horton yesterday, it seemed like there may be some news coming.

Andy “Kaos” Kolle’s response to this post. “You know I will fight Truax any time, I havent heard much about it until reading your site this morning!!!”

THE STATE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA BOXING from the Seconds Out Program given at “Wanted”

It has been a wild ride since Governor Pawlenty and the state of Minnesota authorized a new Boxing Commission and we began hosting state sanctioned cards. And since that time just a few short years ago, we’ve had some good times haven’t we? Sure, there’s been some controversy too; an element of professional fisticuffs since the inception of the sport-and we’ve been no exception. First, we saw the return of boxing to a legitimate large venue; the Target Center- something not seen since St. Paul’s Matt Vanda battled liver-eater, Yori Boy Campas in 2005. And with it, came our first state sanctioned Minnesota Middleweight champion in more than a decade. That generated a crowd of 5,170 screaming people. Something unheard of for local fights. But this was just a prelude of what was to come next when the state’s hottest rivalry since Brian Brunette faced Gary “The Hammer” Holmgren in February of 1984. Sure there had been a few in-between like LaCoursiere-Evgen and Margan-Papasadora, but none that was able to draw like Bonsante and Vanda, which drew an audience of 9,272. It wasn’t a state record, but its aftershock was as impressive as Bonsante’s performance. Not since Bobick-LeDoux I back in 1976, had so many casual and non-boxing fans paid to join the die-hards to witness a fistic battle.

So where are we at now? Nothing sells like a local rivalry, and we saw a few. We witnessed Matt Vanda and Kenny Kost duke it out at the Roy Wilkins, followed by Vanda and Andy Kolle trading fantastic shots at the Myth in Maplewood back in November of 2007. Earlier this year was the passing of the torch from Anthony Bonsante to Andy Kolle. Mean while one if the hottest Middleweight prospects in the world has been right under our noses racking up wins against the top fighters from all over the United States. Terry Tock 17-4, Jonny Hayes 6-3, Durrell Richardson 11-2, and Patrick Perez 26-5, all have fallen to “Golden” Caleb Truax’s power and skill.

At a time when Andy Kolle and Caleb Truax should be fighting, it’s not even close to happening. Will we see it happen? Don’t hold your breath. The Kolle camp don’t want any part of the red hot Truax!

I was able to speak with Caleb Truax a little after Saturday night’s boxing event. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my recorder rolling so I have no quotes. I started off asking Caleb about the “State of Boxing” report in the program. I asked him where they were at with the “Gentlemen’s Agreement” between Tony G and Chuck Horton. Caleb’s response, frustrated! He told me they have been trying to make the showdown between the states champ and number one contender for quite some time. Caleb said it didn’t look like they were going to live up to their end of the deal. I need to make it known, Truax doesn’t like to call out fighters and this comes more from a deal that they thought was made. Truax told me he would fight Kolle anywhere; Black Bear Casino, The Decc, Hinckley, just make it happen. He said it is a great fight for the fans and both he and Andy. Caleb Truax is such a nice, humble young man, it was different to seem him frustrated and animated about this subject. I have to admit, its not just he who seems frustrated by the situation. When fans talk to me about Minnesota boxing, its always, “when will Kolle be fighting Caleb”, and “whats up with Walters and Phil”. It seems like there is a good chance at least of Williams/Walters. They just each need to win Sept. 26 at the Target Center. But according to Caleb Truax and Tony Grygelko, the Kolle camp wont even discuss a fight between Caleb and Andy. Its my opinion that it would really be a shame if this fight doesn’t also take place in the coming months. I believe Andy Kolle and Caleb Truax will have opportunities beyond the state in the coming months and years. Its also my opinion that every opportunity to better yourself instate should be taken advantage of before going to take on the worlds best. Lets hope these two camps can come up with a plan to finally have the top contender and the champ come together and put on a show that both they and the fans deserve. I plan on trying to get comments from Chuck Horton and Andy Kolle on this subject today or tomorrow.

Headlines for Kaos?

Here is a list of Andy “Kaos” Kolles last five fights; (records are from time of fight) Nov,17-07 Matt Vanda (37,4), June,7-08 Jonathan Reid (34,9), Sept, 25-08 Paul Williams (34,1), March, 28-09 Anthony Bonsante (32,10,3), June, 18-09 Anthony Shuler (20,5,1). Andy won all but one of these fights. The only person in this state who could match the opponents Kaos has faced over the last couple of years would be Matt Vanda but he didn’t bring home the W’s. The reason I bring this up is, Where is the buzz? The major talk around the state has been revolving around; Matt Vanda, Zach Walters, Phil Williams, Jason Litzau, and Wilton Hilario. Hasn’t Kolle been the one guy who has brought home the bacon? Jake Wegner recently listed Kolle along with Litzau as somebody who was right there as far as the national scene goes, going as far as to say he was one of the better south paws in the Country. Where are the headlines? Where is the buzz?

There was a lot of talk and excitement after Chuck Horton and Tony Grygelko made their gentleman’s agreement to have “Golden” Caleb Truax take on Kolle this fall. But with all the calling out, and big fight announcements the Truax/Kolle affair seems to have lost steam. Would setting a place and date for this fight kindle the fire again? Are Andy and Caleb just not outspoken enough to stir the fans imaginations? There are not many in the state who would argue there are better middle weights then, Andy Kolle, Caleb Truax, and Kenny Kost. With Kost having not fought for a very long time, doesn’t that leave Kolle/Truax as the best middle weight match up in the state? Its often been said that middle was the strong division in Minnesota, why the lack of love?

Okay, Okay, I hear you, the name Andy “Kaos” Kolle often finds its way into my writings. But instead of talking about what he has done, shouldn’t we be pondering what might be. What national fighters should team Horton have their eyes on? How can Andy get some quality TV time? It would seem to me that he is a marketers dream. He is obviously not afraid of anything or anyone in the ring. He is only fighting quality record boxers. He has proven power. And he has an Oscar type look. What’s the problem? Boxrec’s # 6 in the Nation Andy Kolle (19,2). Bring on the headlines….

From our Jake Wegner interview

M…. What MN fighters do you think have the greatest potential to make waves on the national level.

Jake….   Obviously Jason Litzau is already there.  I like Andy Kolle, but he needs to talk more and do more interviews—be more accessable.  I’m told by those that haveinterviewed him, that he only does them by email.  His team needs to market him outside of Duluth because he has a lot of potential.  I think Andy Kolle is one of the better southpaws in the land, but provided he makes it past Truax in the Fall, and then hopefully Kost, I would really like to see Andy in a nice fight on ESPN against a guy similar in talent.  In other words, he shouldn’t haveto fight killers like Ward and Paul Williams to be able to get a fight and a payday on ESPN.  He should be matched evenly and allowed to shine.  I like Caleb Truax’s athleticism and counter-punching, but I want to see him be more aggressive out there, and I think that certainly Phil Williams has the right stuff to shine on a national level.  Had Codrington showed up that night when he ended up fighting Echols, Phil just may have killed him.  He looked that good, and everyone that was there noticed the power and speed of his jab.  It had the force of a cross.  Joey Abell is in the right weight class, and definitely has the right skin color to get him televised fights, but I want Joey to see a hypnotist, Anthony Robbins, or whatever it takes to get his full confidence back, and then step up and fight some serious names in the Heavyweight division.  If Wilton Hilario beats Jason Litzau this Fall, then his name jumps to the moon automatically.  It’s a crime that a Light Heavyweight with Zach Walters’ record has not been invited over to Germany to face a European belt holder and get a career payday.  I can put him in touch with the right people overseas to make that happen if he’s interested.

Your Answers to the question, “Should Zach “Jungleboy” Walters take on the winner of Williams/Vanda?”

We only got a few emails on this, so I have included some of the comments regarding the subject. I think there is quite a bit of disappointment over the fact that this fight is not until Sept. 26 and that makes a date with Zach impossible until late in the year. Not to mention, who knows what can happen between now and then. I do know Chuck Horton has big plans for Zach Walters, and there is no shortage of great fights for him. I probably posted the question premature, but here are your thoughts. Also, if you missed Zach and Andy’s last fight you can watch it here.  Click here and scroll down to Bridge Battle II .

Minnesota’s boxing world does not revolve around Duluth. I’d like to see the fight, but it aint up to you, me, Chuck or Zach.

0Phil and Zach are both awesome fighters, I love watching both of them fight, but Zach seems to have way more experience than Phil does.  I think that Phil is all just talk when it comes to fighting Zach, he wants to act tough, but when Zach decided he wanted to take the fight, he went running scared. I think this would be the ideal fight, I would totally go! He is putting this off with the fight he signed with Vanda. As for fighting the winner, i think that someday he should fight both Williams and Vanda, just to prove a point that he’s not affraid to take on any challenge.

Yes, Zach and Phil need to finish the talking

Phil will fight him when he is actualy offered the fight!

Jungle will fight whoever they put in front of him. He is the best in MN!

Matt is a lot of fun to watch and probably the biggest name in Minnesota…but you got to wonder why he is trying to fight the hardest puncher (Williams) in Minnesota and the most experienced Light heavy. (Walters)Especially when he has one KO in 5 years…

But again I love to watch matt fight, just wish he would save it for a Kolle rematch

Matt Vanda has the most fans by far. Jason litza is our best boxer. Phil would beat Zach easy. But probably wont waste any more time in minesota after he knocks out matt.

While Vanda hasn’t won any high profile fights out of state… he has gone the distance with Chavez Jr (he probably should have won the first fight) Demers and Duddy..Those are fights that most Minnesota boxers wouldn’t even take… The few times that Walters and Kolle have fought out of state have not been pretty. So I would think Vanda is probably still the biggest name in boxing from MN.. He just needs to stay at 148 or 154

A few changes.

boxAs I am sure you have noticed, we are starting to allow comments through. I am sorry that it is a slow process, but we have made the decision to have all comments go through moderation before going live. Unfortunately its the only way to keep things from going out of control. This isn’t a forum, but since we don’t have writers on all corners of the state its one way to get other points of view. We will be very strict on language and low blows. This means if you have something less than nice to say about a fighter, make sure your reasoning is ring based or about something they have said in print, on my site, or another web site. You can pretty much go after me as much as you see fit, as long as you don’t curse or get vulgar. Our interviews will be a little different, we will be most strict in this portion of moderation. These professional boxers are taking time out of their busy schedules to let us learn more about them, respect will be of highest importance. On our opinion pieces we will be most lax, as its our opinion and I know everyone has one.

I plan on getting back to more interviews from around the state. This is a fan site and I make no secret about my support of fighters from all across our great state. We will cover boxing events put on by all promoters. I love all shows, big and small. It looks like there will be a few more voices heard as well. There is someone in the twin cities that plans on helping in our coverage . As you have seen, Laura Zink, has been doing GREAT work for us in recent weeks,(Fight review for Seconds Out last Hinckley show, and the Bridge Battle II final report), and has some plans to bring her professional writings skills to interviews as well. MNboxingleague.com is based out of Duluth but has no connection to any promotion here or anywhere in the state. Obviously, with great pros like Andy “Kaos” Kolle and Zach “Jungleboy” Walters in our backyard you will still see plenty of them. Chuck Horton is one of the best trainers in the state, and anyone who has gone to his shows, knows they are a good time. All that being said, I am a huge fan of Tony Grygelko and Seconds Out Promotions. Nobody has brought more boxing in the last few years. MSC brought the SUPER fight between “Kaos” and “The Bullet” , now they have the great match up of Williams/Vanda and possibly Jason Litzau/Wilton Hilario. Again, I love it all. Contrary to popular belief, I have not been paid by any promotion. I have helped out with Horton’s last couple shows, mainly connecting them with iFan.tv and talking to a few sponsors, but, due to lack of time I plan on going back to being a fan and covering all Minnesota boxing to best of my abilities. And with help already here, and other help that has been offered, I think we will be able to do this better than ever.

Lastly, I would love to get your input as to who you would like to see interviewed. You can also give us some questions you would like to see answered. And if you think you would like to start adding your two cents to our site, just let us know.

Best Regards,

Todd
