Busy boxing summer ahead for Minnesota?

Generally warm weather in Minnesota slows down the boxing scene. Not looking like that is the way this summer is going to go. 2013 has already blown 2012 out of the water in terms of great fights and fight cards. Seconds Out Promotions return along with a couple nice shows by RDS and T-Rex Promotions have produced great action, high profile fights, and some great top to bottom cards. Follow MNBoxingLeague on facebook.

Seconds Out Promotions will be topping its own card “Truax/Vanda” when they join Warriors Boxing to bring in ESPN “Friday Night Fights” with Truax in a televised bout vs Don George June 21. The undercard is packed with fan friendly fights and a nice state title fight.

Jungle Boy Promotions has July 6 set and it will feature Cerresso Fort in his first fight back after his April 19 loss on Friday Night Fights… It doesn’t look like he is interested in coming back soft either. Gary “Stone Cold” Eyer, fresh off his thrilling fight and victory over Blake Franklin, will be defending the strap won last month. Al Sands will also be featured in what is said to be a step-up fight. Marcus Morris will be making his pro debut.

July/August have three to four different cards being discussed. This is boxing, and it will be interesting what shakes out beyond July 6….

Although “Sir” Cerresso Fort (16,1,1) fought a game fight for all 8 rounds, Jackson was just too much for him. Fort proved he has heart and a chin, 14 of Jackson’s previous wins came by stoppage. We expect the always upbeat Sir Fort to bounce back and learn from Friday’s experience…Follow MNBoxingLeague on facebook and twitter.

Along with many big time national fights, Saturday, April 27 has a Minnesota State title fight pitting Al Sands (8,1) vs Lucas St Clair (2,1)… St. Clair boxed two times in 2007 and once in 2010, but he is as worthy as any in a very weak Cruiser weight class… Below are Minnesota’s rankings and can be found on the Minnesota Boxing Commission’s site. Only 44 year old Lindquist, Sands and St. Clair have winning records. Al Sands Loss came to number two ranked Gibson..

1. Al Sands (8,1) 2. Tyrone Gibson (1,4) 3. Harley Kilfain (10,13) 4. Marty Lindquist (14,8) 5. Lucas St. Clair (2,1)

Seconds Out Promotions has moved to May 18 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis…

“Golden” Caleb Truax (21,1,1) and “Sir” Cerresso Fort (16,0,1)/ not anytime soon…

Last night team Fort and Seconds Out Promotions met for the final time to discuss the super fight fans of both fighters want to see… The negotiation had been quite public from the calling out of Truax to offers and counter offerers… For now, it looks like the the price tag was too high for a Minnesota fight.. This may be the best for Minnesota fight fans, as both men will have an opportunity to continue their winning ways without stumbling the other. Although, it is many’s opinion cleaning out the state is the best prep for taking on the nations elite, it has to make dollars and sense for all involved… The bank cant get broke to do such a fight… For now, the below photo is closest we will get to seeing these two sharing a ring….

After the talks fell off, Golden Truax, while disappointed terms could not be agreed upon to fight Fort, was happy to continue towards his ultimate goal and plans he and team had laid before being called out… Team Truax has their eyes set on a couple major fights setting him up for ranking within a legitimate world title… We are not sure if Truax will do a stay busy fight May 18 or head towards his loftier goals and step up fights….

As for “Sir” Cerresso Fort, we are sure he and team are looking towards similar goals.. At the end of the day, Minnesota is quite lucky to have a very talented middleweight pool of fighters. And fans can hope that one day the two sides may come to terms that work for all parties involved…Follow MNBoxingLeague on facebook and twitter. We are still working on our twitter, but FB is very active…

“Sir” Cerresso Fort (16,0,1) has second thoughts about fighting “Golden” Caleb Truax (21,1,1)..

Update, 3-20-13 Quote from “Sir” Cerresso Fort….Ive been thinking about how to reply to this recent trash talking,im just going to keep my composure and let all my fans, friends, and family know that ive been trying to reach Caleb Truax’s team last night and also this mourning to let them know that will gladly take the fight, they seemingly want it,but like we all know everything isn’t as it appears,if they really want it they’ll contact me instead of putting all the business on Facebook

#IT SEEMS LIKE THEY’D RATHER DO FACEBOOK PUMPING THEN ACTUALLY TRYING TO REACH ME AND MAKE THIS FIGHT FOR SURE HAPPEN#

Cerresso Fort has been one of Minnesota’s hottest fighters over the last year with victories over then undefeated Dave Peterson and Andy Kolle… This past Friday, Fort easily got past a last minute sub in the main event in Hinckley and said there was nobody worthy of fighting in Minnesota’s middleweight class… Many heard Fort ask Caleb Truax’s promoter for a fight with Golden Truax. This had fans abuzz and it looked like a possible huge middleweight showdown was about to happen. Most consider Truax tops at middle in the state as well as P4P best… The problem, Caleb Truax and his promoter excepted the challenge!  It seems team Fort was more interested in talking about fighting Truax than actually stepping in the ring with him… Below are a couple question we asked Caleb after the past few day’s events… We also put in a request to Mr. Fort but did not get a response….

Cerresso Fort is coming off of quite a streak. You and he seem to be the cream of the crop at middle in Minnesota. Were you able to catch any of his recent fights?

Truax….I’ve seen most of his fights. He had a nice win over Andy Kolle in Jan.

After Cerresso Fort’s past two victories he has said he would like to fight you. Many at Uppercut’s Boxing event heard him asking your promoter to fight you. What are your thoughts on his very public request?

Truax….Yes, I guess his UD win over a 38yr old who hadn’t won since 2004 was the confidence he needed to take a fight with me. I have no problem at all with Fort asking my promoter for the fight, I do have a problem with him back-handedly calling me out over a Facebook post. If you want to fight. Just say so!

Do you see yourself and he coming to terms?

Truax….My promoter offered Fort $8,000 for a May 18th fight. Fort countered With $15k and my promoter accepted. Then for whatever reason, Fort had to discuss the terms that he proposed with his “team.” Ultimately he decided not to fight me, even though we agreed to his terms. A smart career move by him because he isn’t on my level.

We expect big things for both of these Minnesota prospects…. It looks like the lesson here is, dont ask for a fight you really dont want… Again, if Mr. Fort has more he would like to add, we will give him equal space. Normally these things go on in private. But since Fort called out Truax publicly it is only fair to let fans know he (Caleb Truax) was/is very willing to take that fight, and it seems his promoter was willing to pay much more than the going rate…

News and notes from around the region…

“Sir” Cerresso Fort (16,0,1) took care of business this past Friday and the future looks BRIGHT… Talks of some big fights, including “Golden” Caleb Truax (21,1,1) seemingly offering Fort an opportunity to fight Minnesota’s P4P best… Truax/Fort would be HUGE!

“Sir” Cerresso Fort (15,0,1), taking big steps to be the best…

Cerresso Fort

Cerresso Fort is coming off of his biggest victory to date, and after January 25 is probably one of Minnesota’s most fearless warriors… Over the last 9 months Fort has fought then undefeated Dave Peterson (13,0), Brandon Baue (12,7), and Andy Kolle (25,3), getting wins in all three.. He is set to face off against Dashon Johnson (13,10) at Hinckley Grand Casino, Hinckley, MN. Fort flew out to DC and Las Vegas last week to get more world class sparring, in preparation for Johnson… We know team Fort will not be looking past Dashon Johnson, but we can….Follow MNBoxingLeague on facebook and twitter. We are still working on our twitter, but FB is very active…

“Sir” Fort has stamped his place atop of MN’s jr. middleweight division and in many’s eyes, middleweight top to bottom… Directly after Forts impressive victory over Kaos Kolle, rumors arose about a possible showdown with Minnesota’s top middleweight Caleb Truax.   There is also little doubt that there will be TV opportunities for Cerresso Fort once he gets through with his March 15… A fight with Truax could do both, TV and clear out the division.. Is that the right move if Fort wants to campaign at 154? What national opportunities will be offered to Fort? The pros and cons seem pretty equal on whatever Forts next move is… But Fort needs to take care of business March 15 first… And before thinking Dashon Johnson is just easy pickings, take a deeper look in to his record and the rounds he’s fought, even in his current losing streak..

We love the path Fort has been taking… Minnesota seems to be turning that corner in competition… Fort, Caleb Truax, RJ Laase, Jamal James, Andy Kolle, have all shown they are not fighting for give-me’s, and that is the only way to start gaining national attention beyond being a farm league of opponents.. More proof May 18, Jeremy McLaurin vs Tony Lee and Charles Meier vs Tyler Hultin… Thats how its done!!

Get out to the fights March 15, Hinckley Grand Casino, Hinckley, MN…. Cerreso Fort, RJ Laase, Aaron Green, Ray Edwards, Winston Anderson, Rondale Hubbert, and much more… Tickets through your favorite fighter or ticketmaster…
