We are hoping to line up an interview with Minnesota’s top heavy and a fighter we think can make a big splash on the national scene sooner rather than later. We have had some talks with Joey Abell’s people and it sounds like “The Man of Steel”, Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell may have some time to talk with us in the near future. For now, Joey’s site has the video up from his last fight as well as some news on future action. Check out Joey’s site here.

A verbal agreement between Chuck Horton and Tony Grygelko has been made. They plan to have a super showdown calebtruax_newlrgbetween Andy “Kaos” Kolle and “Golden” Caleb Truax this fall. They will each have two fights before they meet each other in the ring. Minnesota’s Champ and the top contender, That’s what I’m talking about! More to come shortly.

Yet another great reason to get to Hinckley Grand Casino June 5th, I believe you just may see both Walters and Kolle there as well. The possibility of both, Zach Walters vs Phil Williams and Andy Kolle vs Caleb Truax this fall, what more can a boxing fan ask for? These fights will be co promoted by Seconds Out Promotions and Horton’s Gym promotions.

I have been a huge fan of Seconds Out and Horton’s gym from day one. I could not be happier. Thank you both for BRINGING IT.

boxThank you for your support! Our readership has hit a new high over the last two months. This last week was our best ever! The holiday weekend has been a time to decompress after all the happens of the last couple weeks. We have some exciting changes coming over the next few weeks and months and I just want to thank you for your continued support. Now back to the reason you’re here in the first place, BOXING. Below are some punches in bunches from around the state.

Gary “Stone Cold” Eyer was in great spirits after his second TKO of Scott Robinson. Gary again told me how scared he was going into the ring, but those who were there or have watched the web-cast know Eyer was more scary than scared.

I had an opportunity to talk with “T-Rex” RJ Laase Saturday. He gave credit to Hecotor Orozco for coming to Duluth and taking care of business. RJ is a very smart young boxer and understands the opportunity this gives him to learn from Thursday nights action. I have no doubt the next time we see Laase, he will be better than ever.

Tyler Hultin lived up to the talk. You really could not ask for a better start to a professional career than an early knock out. I was able to chat with Tyler after his fight Thursday night. First off, Tyler, his dad, his fans, were all class. This is another talented and classy fighter from Fergus Falls MN. He was in great spirits after his fight with Craig, he said he was really looking forward to being able to fight in Duluth again.

iFan.tv replay

Tyler Hultin, “The Mullet”, My oh My, this guy is good! He started off his pro career with a Knock Out! I cant wait to see him in action again.

If you were not able to catch the fights live, iFan.tv will have the show up on their site for replay. I just want to say the guys at iFan.tv are great, they are real pros. Gary Eyer just gets more impressive every time I see him. RJ and Orozco put on one hell of a show, so good that we will get to see it again. Dave Peterson and Joshua Rodriguez was all I had hoped for and more. MinnesotaBoxing.com has a great report on the fights as well as photos here.

I would like to note that “The Champ”, Andy “Kaos” Kolle, did a great job in his first time broadcasting.

We are getting numerous requests for dvds of last nights show. Fergus Falls is in the house! It looks like we should have an offering in the upcoming days.

This is from the Horton’s gym and Jungleboy news letter. I believe it was printed in the Duluth News Tribune.

Walters, Olson put on good show at Bridge Battle boxing event
Jon Nowacki - 05/22/2009

Jorey Olson said a chill shot up his spine as he heard “Welcome to the Jungle” blast through the loudspeakers at Grandma’s Sports Garden, which cued Duluth boxer Zach “Jungle Boy” Walters to enter the ring at the Bridge Battle pro boxing event on Thursday night. “I hear that and it’s like, ‘Oh great! Who’s Zach going to knock the heck out of this time,’ ” Olson said. “Then I realized, ‘Oh …, that’s me.’ ” Walters was a late substitution for Anthony Wallace of Brainerd, Minn., who was scratched Tuesday with a medical issue. Walters decided to fill in, and while it was just an exhibition, his appearance stole the show. “How can’t he steal the show?” said Olson, 27. “People love him. I love him. It was just awfully nice for Zach to help me out like that. If it hadn’t been for him, I would have been sitting here watching the fights just like everybody else. This is all part of my natural progression. This is my next step.” Olson is a former high school football player who graduated from Proctor in 2000. He has been boxing for about three years and was looking forward to making his professional debut against Wallace in a scheduled four-round cruiserweight bout. Instead, he took on Walters, someone he has sparred with and served as an usher in Olson’s wedding. But the good friends slugged it out and entertained the crowd, even if Walters, Minnesota’s light heavyweight champion, held back a little. The boxers wore headgear in what really amounted to a spirited sparring match. “Believe me, if Zach gave me everything he had, I would have folded a lot quicker,” Olson said of Walters, who wasn’t available for comment. “There is a reason the guy’s the champ.” Olson will now have to wait until Bridge Battle II June 18 at Grandma’s Sports Garden to make his pro debut. “After high school, it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do,” Olson said. “I love boxing, and now, I’ll just have to wait until June 18, and then hopefully, there will no backing out next time.” BEST OF THE REST Duluth boxer Gary Eyer gave the crowd a show by flooring Scott Robinson of Chippewa Falls, Wis., at 2:36 in the second round of their light welterweight rematch. Robinson apparently didn’t like how their first fight was stopped early, but this one left no doubt that Eyer is the better boxer. Enobong “The Nigerian Gentleman” Umohette, Tyler Hultin of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Dave Peterson of Mounds View, Minn., also were impressive in winning their bouts. In a disappointment for the hometown fans, Hector Orozco (1-1) of Minneapolis earned a split decision over R.J. Laase (4-1) in a four-round light welterweight bout, handing the Duluth boxer his first professional loss. Laase was clearly disappointed but handled the loss with class, conceding that Orozco fought the better fight Thursday and vowing to learn from it. “[Orozco] got the best of me [Thursday night]. That’s boxing, but I’m not done,” Laase said.
